Granite

Granite is a common alternative to kitchen countertops. Granite is rated at hardness of 6-7 on Mohs scale. As it’s a naturally porous stone it requires mandatory once a year sealing for moderate use and again when water stops beading. With proper care and maintenance granite countertops can last a lifetime.

Marble

The less popular option for kitchen countertops. It’s rated 3-5 on Mohs scale so it’s the easier to scratch than quartz or granite. As a naturally porous stone it requires sealing once a year to give it stain resistant properties. The drawback to marble is that it etches and reacts badly with food acids and kitchen chemicals. It’s prone to losing it’s polish over time and may require buffing and polishing the surface to return its shine every few years. As the more expensive choice between granite and quartz and it’s beautiful veining and texture it is often used for model homes or secondary kitchens.
